Day 2

26 08 2007

Early start for the team with even more miles to cover today than yesterday and with less time. Studentbrakeaway are really pushing the cars. Your car pratically has to be brand new to keep up…….a problem for us in our 18yr old cab.

Problems today; brake fluid, heater suck on max, driver door still sticking.

Day 1

25 08 2007

After a stressful trip just getting to the ferry, we had another stressful trip getting to Le Mans in a car who’s max speed is 55mph.

We finally arrived at the camp site after following the rally organisers useless directions at 1am the next day leaking all kinds of fluids from the cab.

Sleeping was a vital after the previous long days but first the taxi needed some first aid.

Also, French keyboards are all backwords for the querty folk in the UK.

We are on our way

24 08 2007

Its begun! after a rush to brighton and then back to dover we are on our ferry bound for France.

A few minor electric problems and I got locked in the drivers cabin at the quay….but appart from that the taxi is going fine (fingers crossed)

Hoping to arrive at Le Mans by 11pm local time. Hopefully to give us enough time to rest and check over the taxi ready for the next long leg to San Sebastian in Spain

Preparing for departure

24 08 2007

After 2 solid days of repair work on the taxi it lived and made a test run from Canterbury to Ashford and back. At 11pm we arrived in a lit car park to apply the awesome stickers and sponsor names…..by 1am……(only 10 hours from the start)…..the taxi ran out of electricity……..but its ok RAC are on the way to save the day…..should be here in a few mins.

T minus 2 days 10 hours

21 08 2007

The time is near!

Its all very exciting isn’t it!

I’ve just finished packing my gear and the tools for the taxi. Getting up at the crack of dawn to drive down to finish up some work on the taxi to get it ready for the Student Brake Away 2007 challenge.

This will probably be my last update till we are on the road. Leaving Brighton Friday morning with 150 other fancy dress cars lol.

Till Europe, take care!

Rich

T minus 7 days!

16 08 2007

The time of the Student Gumball Rally is nearly here!

The team are preparing with final prep to the taxi occurring soon. The team are packing for the voyage and everything is being triple checked, including the ever important paperwork. We’re really going to be roughing it in Europe in random places meeting random folk!

Starting from Brighton on Friday 24th, the team will be joining the other participants on the first leg of the journey as we take part in the StudentBrakeAway. Day 1 will see if travelling in convoy from Brighton to Dover so look out for us on the M20 and surrounding roads! After which we are ferry bound to France and onto our first night camping near Le Mans, France.

The final dressing of the taxi will be happening next week so if you want your name on it to show your support please donate online via the links on the Charity Page.

Also if you are a company willing to sponsor, its not to late to get your company on the side of the London Cab. Email us ASAP.

So far, everything is moving smoothly with the team excited to move on out and show mainland Europe how to travel in style!

We’re still alive!!

24 07 2007

With the summer in full swing and as wet as ever the team are preparing for the heatwave in mainland europe. Studentbrakeaway issued out first info pack the other day telling us all the lovely things we need/probably going to forget.

Donations are still coming in and its not too late to get your name on the side of the taxi for all of Europe to see, just donate at least £2 to any of the team’s charities and we’ll put your name on. If you donate a lot we’ll see about putting your name in gold or at least some cool colours, how does that sound?

Updates will be more frequent as we get closer to the start date on the 24th of August and we gear up for the epic voyage!

Till next time

Road Test

12 06 2007

The team has been busy. We all took a spin in the taxi the other day, it was great, found out the brakes are brilliant, but thats fine, we can sort that out. It was a good old fashion Top Gear test with a deserted large piece of tarmac, some cornering, some screaming, some heavy braking, some driving over heights….(wasn’t me, promise)

With the departure of team from Canterbury, the taxi has been put into hibernation for a few weeks till we return to prepare it for its epic journey

Fundraising update

7 06 2007

To date, the team has raised over £100 for all our chairites. Please donate, and tell all your friends and families.

Remember if you donate over £2 to any one of the 5 charities you will get your name printed on the side of the taxi for all to see how great you are!
